More than ever, students are finding it difficult to fund their college education, and the need for scholarship support has never been greater. Each year, 95 percent of Nichols College students receive some form of aid to bridge the financial gap. For countless deserving students, these scholarships tip the balance and make the possibility of college a reality.
The College is grateful to the many donors who create endowed and named scholarships. Their reasons for giving back may vary, but their investment in Nichols yields a direct and personal benefit to our students. Here’s what some of our scholarship donors say:
“Given the tremendous growth in law enforcement, private security, and homeland security, it has become more important than ever for security professionals to share their knowledge,” said Jim Dunbar ’51 who was instrumental in creating the Criminal Justice Management Program at Nichols and an endowed scholarship for CJM students. “…I am truly gratified to be able to contribute to the enrichment of deserving students who are likely candidates for security careers.”
Peter Dixon ’70 was motivated to endow a scholarship as a result of his experience as a Nichols College trustee in the 1990s. “I saw the College move forward and break away from a somewhat passive, status quo institution to one with a broader curriculum and greater financial stability,” he said. “I was excited about the progress and wanted to be a part of it.”
In 2003, Keith Anderson ’81 established the Keith Corkum Endowed Scholarship in Economics. “While many of the excellent professors I had at Nichols had an impact on me, no one was more influential than Dr. Corkum,” he said. “When I read about his retirement after 36 years of dedicated service, I thought it would be great to honor his commitment with a scholarship.”
